The Timuel D. Black, Jr. Scholarship and Fellowship Luncheon is a City Colleges of Chicago Foundation annual fundraising event that celebrates and supports academic excellence and community leadership. Named after the late, civil rights activist and historian, Timuel D. Black, Jr., this luncheon brings together a diverse group of students, community leaders, and philanthropists to foster a spirit of excellence and to welcome the class of Timuel D. Black fellows.
Timuel D. Black, Jr. Scholarship & Fellowship
The City Colleges of Chicago Foundation (CCCF) has recently announced the creation of the Timuel D. Black Jr. Scholarship and Fellowship (TBSF) program, which honors the life and legacy of the late City Colleges professor, activist, and historian, Timuel D. Black, Jr.
The TBSF program was created to support City Colleges students who are emerging leaders in their communities, and to increase their knowledge of Chicago social movements and local history. Fellows will:
- Strengthen leadership, activism skills, and civic knowledge
- Improve professional and community activism skills
- Strengthen their social and professional networks in order to support their social justice work
- Improve their communities and the City of Chicago through their leadership
- Work to increase equity and justice within the City Colleges of Chicago and the City of Chicago
Selected fellows will receive:
- Financial assistance to cover two semesters of tuition
- A $1,000 stipend to help with living expenses while in the program
- Assistance with textbook fees and CTA Ventra cards during the fellowship year
- The opportunity to participate in workshops, networking events, and mentoring sessions, as well as a civil rights study trip to Alabama
